Course Objective

The objective of this course is to allow participants with an advanced knowledge of first aid to become proficient and confident in the practical application of their skills. Theory learnt on the Level 1 and 2 courses is taught at a higher level and is all done in scenario based settings.


A substantial amount of time will be spent on primary and secondary surveys so that participants learn to make the right decisions on the extent of an injury and how to treat it correctly. This will be by far the most important and beneficial part of the Level 3 course.


An additional statement of results may be applied for from the QCTO if required for Occupational Health and Safety qualification.

        • Musculoskeletal injuries (sprains, fractures and dislocations)
        • Chest injuries
        • Abdominal injuries
        • Bleeding, wounds and soft tissue injuries
        • Respiratory emergencies (asthma)
        • Shock
        • Choking (adult, child and infant)
        • Diabetes
        • Epilepsy
        • Environmental illness and injury (hypothermia and hyperthermia)
        • Poisoning (child and adult), stings (bees and scorpions) and bites (spiders and snakes)
        • Burns
        • Water accidents (drowning)
        • Cardiovascular disorders – heart attacks and strokes
        • First Aid kits


Practical Component

          • Primary survey

          • Secondary survey – advanced head to toe
          • Advanced vital sign checks
          • Use of a blood pressure cuff and Stethoscope

          • Use of the thermometer
          • How to perform a HGT (blood glucose levels)
          • Spinal immobilization
          • Use of a spine board
          • Use of the scoop stretcher
          • Use of head blocks, straps, base plate and spider harness
          • Head and spinal neurological assessment
          • Spinal clearance
          • Emergency childbirth
          • Splinting
