Course Objective

This course is intended primarily for people wishing to learn the effective skills of providing CPR and First Aid to victims of all ages. This course is for anyone with either no or limited medical training, who needs a Department of Labour First Aid Certificate of Competence to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.


On successful completion, a Department of Labour accredited QCTO course content compliant Certificate of Competence will be issued. This certificate is valid for 3 years.


In addition, a statement of results may also by applied for directly from the QCTO, if required as part of an Occupational Health and Safety qualification course or result verification.

    • Principles of first aid and safety, scene management and ethics
    • Primary survey, CPR (adult, child and infant) & rescue breathing
    • Secondary survey (medical and trauma)
    • Head, face and eye injuries
    • Spinal injuries
    • Musculoskeletal injuries (sprains, fractures and dislocations)
    • Chest injuries
    • Abdominal injuries
    • Bleeding, wounds and soft tissue injuries
    • Respiratory emergencies (asthma)
    • Shock
    • Choking (adult, child and infant)
    • Diabetes
    • Epilepsy
    • Environmental illness and injury (hypothermia and hyperthermia)
    • Poisoning (child and adult), stings (bees and scorpions) and bites (spiders and snakes)
    • Burns
    • Water accidents (drowning)
    • Cardiovascular disorders – heart attacks and strokes
